The UIL Meet PDF Print E-mail

The UIL meet at Eisenhower was awesome!!! But it was also a little bit hectic. The bus driver took some insane route to get from Lopez to the competition. So it took about an hour to get there. When we arrived, we only had an hour to settle down before the first event started. I competed in seven events. There was an opening for spelling, so I volunteered to compete in that. After spelling, there was Maps Charts and Graphs, Math, Number Sense, then Calculator. Some one was disturbing me when I was taking the calculator test. He kept on coughing; constantly. After Calculator, I had a forty minute break to eat lunch. That went by very quickly. I ate pizza and some candy, and then played a few games of Speed. Next was Dictionary Skills. The test was relatively easy. All the answers on the test were basically on the same page in the dictionary. I didn’t do the whole entire test. I had a few questions left. My friends said that they finished the whole test. Science came next. Time passed really fast. I was so glad to get out of the library. We waited about forty-five minutes for the Awards Ceremony to start. I only placed in two events: Math and Number Sense. Unfortunately, Lopez got second place. Tejada got Sweepstakes. As usual, we beat Eisenhower. They are very poor in academics. But Tejada is very strong. This was the second time we got second place. They were ahead of us by about two hundred points. I hope we beat them in the Championship Meet!

I Love My Holey Jeans PDF Print E-mail

I think Lopez is going too strict on jeans. So what if you have a hole in the knee of your jeans. Even if it is the smallest scratch, you have to call your mom up so she can get you other ones. Or you wear tape on the holes. The tape on the jeans makes it look even worse than just the holes. I don’t think holes in the knees are distracting or are a problem with safety. They are just there, holes in your jeans. Why do we have to call and upset our parents at work to go home, grab a pair of jeans and come to the school to give us the pants and get back to work? It is just harder to do that. What if they don’t answer their phone? We have to put our gross gym shorts on and walk around all day, or put gross masking tape on the holes. Give us some freedom, come on we are in middle school and it’s like we are behind bars for seven hours of every day every week. The school is too strict, I think that we should be allowed to wear jeans with holes in them.

No Gum? Ridicilous! PDF Print E-mail

The rule at school is no gum. When you chew gum at school they give you demerits and you get punished. Teachers are constantly asking “Are you chewing gum?”  In my opinion gum is not a bad thing. When I am chewing gum I am less jittery. Being less jittery helps me and my classmates learn more because when I am constantly shaking my leg I usually end up shaking my classmates desk. Another thing about chewing gum is that it sends more oxygen to your brain. When your brain has more oxygen you will do better on your assignments. Another thing about gum is that it helps people focus. When I am chewing gum it tends to keep me on task. Not only does the gum keep me on task, but it also helps me work harder on my assignments. Chewing gum would most likely lead to less disruptive classroom, that work hard, get better grades, and get there work done in a timely manner. I think gum is so wonderful that we should have gum machines. Wouldn’t it be great to have a vending machine with every type of gum imaginable? From cherry to bubble mint, gum will help improve schools.

Freedom to the Kids! PDF Print E-mail

I think that Lopez is getting way too strict. It seems like everything we do it is wrong, and against the rules. Gum, why can’t we chew gum? The school says that we can’t chew gum because we will stick it under the tables, and put it everywhere. I can promise you, if we were allowed to chew gum, then we would keep it in our mouths. Trust me. Another thing is when we are by the buses; I always stand and talk to my friends a couple of minutes. Well, that’s against the rules too. All the teachers yell at us to get on the bus! Why can’t we socialize for a few minutes? The teachers talk all the time during the day, but we students aren’t allowed to talk in class. Some people may argue, just go hang out with them after school! Well, we can’t do that, because we have so much homework! And it’s the same thing in the hallway, teachers telling us to get to class. Just let them be tardy, then they will learn their lesson! Jeans are another thing. If your jeans have a tiny whole or fray in them, you get sent to the office. This makes me frustrated because I have a lot of jeans with holes in them, but I can’t wear them to school because of this stupid rule! What’s the big deal about holes? If it is appropriate, then what does it matter? I think that Lopez needs to give us a little more freedom, they have us on a very tight leash and a lot of kids are getting fed up with it.

Semester Exams PDF Print E-mail

Why do we have to take semester exams? It just stresses people out. The teachers give us too many reviews to work on. I can understand one review to work on over a few days, but they give us too many long reviews all in a row. In English, I got a six page review to do yesterday. And it’s due today. What do they think we are? Super geniuses? Because not very many people are going to finish a six page review in one night! I don’t mind about math. Math is easy! Yesterday, we got a small packet to do. I finished it in less than 30 minutes, even though it was four pages. Just compare math to English. In English, you have to write out every answer and explain it. In math, you just have to show your work and wrote down the correct answer. Science wasn’t so bad. We got a review on Friday for Science. So we had the weekend to do it, and another two days because it is due on Wednesday. For history, it was the same. We get the packet on Monday and work on it in class the whole week. Electives are the best. In orchestra, we’re probably going to have a playing test. And one should complain about it because we got the music a long time ago and Mrs. Sorgi told us that we were going to have a playing test or chair test soon. But seriously, shy do we need to take semester exams? It’s just another thing for us to worry about.
