National Junior Honor Society has many new projects going on in the coming months. National Junior Honor Society is still selling the Hearts for Haiti in the lunch room during all lunches. They are fifty cents each and you can write a message on them and they will be put on the wall so the recipient of your message can see it. All proceeds go to help the Red Cross in Haiti. The goal is to raise five hundred dollars so go buy a heart today! There is also a Relay for Life on April 30th at Johnson High school. For those of you who missed the meeting, National Junior Honor Society will be forming a team to participate in the twelve hour jog. Ask your National Junior Honor Society sponsors for more information. The run will be to support the American Cancer Society. All students are urged to participate. For those of you who are looking for service hours here at Lopez the Hunger Games party is looking for volunteers to help with set up and general assistance. This is a great opportunity to earn a few good hours here at school and if you have read the book it is even more fun. This is pretty much a general overview of NJHS events for more information contact your NJHS sponsors. |

As 09 have left us another year begins, but this time lets make it right. While last year was the year of gain every thing back that we had in deed have lost, but not yet have fulfilled, so as this year we will gain it back but we can also have fun this year too. So this is the end of a decade and the beginning of a new one. But what will we remember from our last great decade, will it be the rise of the ipod? Or the death of many good people. We will talk good things about it and cherish it for this was OUR decade. |

Were did black friday come from? Who went throught the trouble of telling every store to have a big sale? Did it just kinda happen or is there a origin behind it?
Well, the term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. The word Black is usually held as a negative term and can be remembered from stock market disasters such as Black Monday and Black Tuesday. But Black Friday originated from the way profits or losses were recorded. If you are in the red, for instance, you are losing money- but Black Friday always gives a spike in sales to virtually any business, putting them in the 'Black' or profit region.
Black Friday in late November is important because it represents the advertising and promotion of what shoppers can expect to get during their holiday rush. Most people put off the real buying until the last minute but often browse on Black Friday to make a list and check it twice through different retailers. At the same time, many may be surprised to know the real Black Friday doesn't come until weeks later. For any store, Black Friday marks the beginning of a rise in profit trends which spells out better deals for everyone. But waiting until the last minute may still be the best idea since mark downs get better and better as Christmas approaches.
Hope This Helps, and a Merry Christmas and happy shopping to all! |

This break was extremely busy, from Thanksgiving to early Christmas, and my Daddy’s birthday. Well, let me start from the beginning. On Tuesday at eight a clock in the morning I went to the orthodontist. Two hours later I walked out with some shiny metal braces on my teeth. Long and behold I looked like a dinosaur! My mommy and I drove home to the squeaking of my mouth, “Squeak!” We hurriedly started cleaning the house from were we left off.
Soon the house was COMPLETELY clean. “Hurry up!!” my daddy yelled from downstairs. I rushed down and out to the car and climbed into the front seat. Driving out of the neighbor hood I cranked out my tunes and stuck my head out the window with my tongue hanging out. Soon my head was done being cool and stuck back into the car as I started singing as loud as I could to a wonderful Christmas song. Next thing I was dancing in my seat, well not completely in my seat just kinda, ya know? Finally my dad comes to a stop in the airport parking lot. We climbed out and started walking to terminal one, but we parked at the wrong side so it is a long and intricate walk. I began thinking, “What exactly is a hop, skip, jump?” I never did find out until this very day. Anywho back to the walk, we soon found my brother and his girlfriend, Christien and Jackie.
To be continued… |

Veteran’s day was on Wednesday and as you know we had a big ceremony on the concourse to honor our veterans. We were all called out of our classes during first period to go and watch. First we listened to a presentation about our veterans and the origins of veteran’s day from all the way back in World War I. We had an actual veteran and his daughter present this information to us from a podium that was constructed at the top of the concourse stairs. I thought that it was actually very interesting to hear about where a holiday that we celebrate every year came from. I had no idea that it was so old. Then they had a show of hands of kids who had family members who were currently serving in the military. The band played some songs and then the choir sang the national anthem. Some kids were being jerks and talking during all of this which was pretty rude because we were trying to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country from invaders. They also did a cool thing where they had the band play all of the theme songs of the different military branches like the army, the navy, and the air force. When the band played their theme the people who where serving or had served in that branch stood up. They ended the ceremony with Ms. Flagg singing Taps after we had a moment of silence during which a bunch of kids talked followed by a silent dismissal. |
